on Antonio Borghini – Kontrabass Jan Leipnitz – Drums Das Schlippenbach/Wa
lsdorff Quartett wurde 2013 gemeinsam von Alexander v. Schlippenbach (Pian

Alto Saxophone Antonio Borghini – Double Bass Jan Leipnitz – Drums The Sch
lippenbach/Walsdorff Quartet was founded in 2013 by Alexander v. Schlippen
bach (piano) and Henrik Walsdorff (alto saxophone). The band’s idea is to
capture the full range of modern progressive jazz and to highlight the ele
ments common to all directions within the genre. Part of the program consi
sts of freely improvised pieces — in the best free jazz tradition\, there
is no prior arrangement. Another part of the program consists of classic\,
if rarely performed\, pieces of modern jazz — compositions by Thelonious
Monk\, Herbie Nichols\, and Eric Dolphy. At the heart of the music\, howev
 er\, are Alexander v. Schlippenbach’s own compositions\, old and new\, whi
ch combine fully written-out passages with free elements\, illustrating th
e connection between traditional jazz and free playing.
